ADHD Coach Training Program Accreditation

Coaches seeking training to become a PAAC certified ADHD coach may need assistance in identifying which training programs PAAC will count towards their ADHD coach training requirements.

Also, PAAC certified coaches will need to renew their PAAC certification every three years, and in order to qualify for recertification, they will need to obtain continuing education units during the three year period leading up to their recertification date.

PAAC has developed accreditation programs to meet the needs of those coaches working towards PAAC certification and PAAC recertification.

Professional Association of ADHD Coaches (PAAC) provides three avenues for an ADHD program or specific ADHD-coach training to be approved and pre-accepted as PAAC qualified ADHD training for coaches seeking PAAC certification and PAAC recertification. Programs that would like to be approved for PAAC accreditation must be aligned with the PAAC ADHD Coaching Competencies and with the PAAC Standards of Ethical Conduct.

The three avenues of accreditation programs are:

  1. Comprehensive Program approval as a PAAC Accredited ADHD Coach Training Program (PAAC AACTP)
  2. Specific training hours approved as PAAC Approved ADHD-Coach Specific Training Hours (PAAC AACSTH)
  3. One-time or ongoing training designed to meet PAAC Continuing ADHD Coaching Education Units (CACEU) for PAAC certification renewal.

Applications for approval as a PAAC AACTP, AACSTH, or CACEU are thoroughly reviewed and approved by PAAC accreditation team members and by specially trained program reviewers. Through this review and approval process, PAAC strives to provide timely and professional service in the approval of high-quality ADHD-coach training programs.

Requirements for Each Accreditation Level

  1. PAAC Accredited ADHD Coach Training Program (PAAC AACTP)

An Accredited ADHD Coach Training Program (AACTP) must offer:

    • A minimum of 150 hours of coach-specific training in ICF core competencies
    • In addition, a minimum of 75 hours of ADHD-coach specific training in PAAC competencies
    • Training on all PAAC ADHD Coaching Competencies and Standards of Ethical Conduct
    • A minimum of 6 observed coaching sessions with an experienced ADHD coach
    • A comprehensive final exam that evaluates a student’s ADHD coaching competency
    • In the U.S. and Canada, a Director of Training holding the MCAC credential; outside the U.S. and Canada, a Director of Training committed to obtaining the MCAC credential within 3 years of the application

Certified graduates of AACTP programs may apply for a CACP or PCAC credential using the AACTP graduate application.

  1. PAAC Approved ADHD-Coach Specific Training Hours (PAAC AACSTH)

Training programs that offer Approved ADHD-Coach Specific Training Hours (AACSTH) must offer:

    • A minimum of 20 hours of coach-specific training in ICF core competencies
    • In addition, a minimum of 20 hours of ADHD-coach-specific training in PAAC competencies
    • Training on some of PAAC ADHD Coaching Competencies and PAAC Standards of Ethical Conduct

Graduates of AACSTH programs applying for a CACP or PCAC credential must use the port-folio application rather than the AACTP graduate application.

  1. PAAC Continuing ADHD Coaching Education Units (PAAC CACEU)

Any trainer, workshop provider, or conference speaker that offers Approved Continuing ADHD Coaching Education Units (CACEU) must offer:

    • Live training in advanced ADHD coaching skills directly related to PAAC Coaching Competencies, the PAAC Standards of Ethical Conduct, or the professional development of an ADHD coach

AND/OR

    • Live training in best practices for ADHD coaches
    • Live training in integrating/incorporating new ADHD science and understanding into ADHD coaching

Training providers who receive PAAC CACEU for their training sessions will provide to attendees a certificate of training completion, which includes the number of CACEU hours awarded and Education category, along with the date and workshop/conference information. These certificates will be attached to an applicant’s certification renewal application.
